Can a Saved, Born Again Christian have a Curse?
Can one of the “Biblical Curses” be affecting your life?
Is it rational to believe that one of the Old Testament curses could be affecting yours or a family member’s life today? Is it biblical? Most modern denominational churches today teach that it isn’t. What is the truth?
Most modern denominational churches ignore the subject and do not teach about curses at all. As a result the body of Christ is basically ignorant about them and open to their consequences.
A dictionary definition of “Curse” is: An appeal or prayer for evil or misfortune to befall on someone or something.
We are using this additional definition: A curse is the negative consequences that are a direct result of our disobedience to God’s rules for righteous and Godly living. In God’s world, they naturally happen as a result of our rebellious thinking or actions. When we do or think abc, we will receive xyz as a result. It is part of God’s natural order for life.
Curses can also be put upon us by other evil minded people who want us to suffer negative events or results. One can have a witchcraft curse put upon them and not even know it. The unsuspecting then suffer from the results of that curse, without ever knowing the cause or reasons.
Then there are curses that can be passed down to us. Generational curses are very real and affect many unsuspecting souls. “The sins of the father” can carry a curse down through multiple generations and negatively affect many lives.
Those types of curses are not what we are talking about here. They can all be dealt with effectively with bible based spiritual warfare training. We are addressing the curses that are affecting millions of people, because of poor teachings on the part of many denominational churches. “Christians can’t have a curse” is the universal mantra of modern Denominational churches.
Have you been taught that Jesus came to do away with the laws contained in Deuteronomy 28 in the Old Testament? That question addresses the heart of this very important issue. Do you believe that since we live in the era of the “Dispensation of Grace” that the law and its curses do not apply to us anymore? Most of us have been taught and thus believe that the Old Testament law was abolished at the cross?
This belief is one of the most widely held misinterpretations of the scriptures within the Christian community today.
Most Christians assume that this belief is at the root of what it means to be a part of a New Testament Church. If you have always assumed this, you are not alone.
Millions of Christians live their lives with this teaching as a major part of their belief system, the belief system upon which we place our faith. Our faith can only be as strong and enduring as the belief’s that it is based upon.
Remember this bible verse? “The wise man built his house upon the rock”. (Mat 7: 24-27) In this analogy, the wise man’s house is his faith and that he built his faith upon a rock solid belief in Jesus Christ. One based on the Word of God, which is embodied in Jesus Christ.
The belief that Jesus did away with the Old Testament laws of God simply is not biblical.
The purpose of this writing is to examine if the teaching, that Jesus did away with all of God’s laws, except for the Ten Commandments, should be included in your personal core beliefs. Or is it depriving the average church member of essential learning’s that could make a dramatic impact on the quality and depth of all of ours walk IN Faith. Because what it confuses the most, is the premise that a Christian cannot be cursed by God. I maintain and teach that they can if living with unrepentant sin.
Not understanding that curses are real and still prevalent today, is the result of this bad teaching. Without a correct understanding, many of us will not have the knowledge or the tools to deal with the spiritual problems and diseases that result from these, very real curses, when they occur.
What the bible actually says is quite different than this modern day teaching and this misunderstanding has major ramifications to the believer and the unbeliever.
The book of Galatians states it very clearly.
Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written………
Jesus came to abolish the Jewish religious and man-made law for Christians, but not God’s laws unto righteousness. They are all still in effect. Especially if one is developing the type of faith that will enable them to endure these last days that are coming upon us.
Jesus Christ, through the power of His Blood sacrifice, redeemed us from the curses associated with each of the 613 precepts of God’s law in the Old Testament. Who did Jesus redeem? You and I, all truly born again Christians. Assuming you are a, born again and baptized, after the age you can make a choice for Jesus, that’s biblical. Not simply christened as an infant.
Let us take a look at what the bible says.
Gal 3:13 is saying that Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, not from the law itself. God’s rules are eternal. Which means that the laws of God, as stated in Deuteronomy, are still in force! In force for all those he didn’t abolish them for.
To make sure that we understand Gal 3:13 as clearly as possible, let’s unpack and analyze it a little.
Redeemed means “to purchase, to buy up; and then to purchase anyone, to redeem, to set free. Here it means that Christ had purchased, or set Born Again Christians free from the curse of the Law, by His being made a curse for us”. That Christ, through the power of His sacrifice and the power of “The Blood” made the ultimate sacrifice for all sin and curses. He paid the price for yours and my freedom IN Him!
From the curse of the law He has rescued us from the consequences of sin and transgression in the world; He has saved us from the punishment which our sins have deserved. But not unless we accept Him and are born again.
Let’s read that again, with a little paraphrasing on my part
Christ has saved or redeemed all born again Christians from the penalty or curse associated with the breaking one of God’s laws, through the power of His Blood. When a born again Christian repents we always receive forgiveness and cleansing. We can all make mistakes, but the power of The Blood always wipes us clean, if we repent and are willing to change our ways and thinking.
Gal 3:12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
It was never possible for anyone to keep the whole law. If anyone broke one single precept, it was the same as breaking all of the 613 laws. That is one of the main reasons Christ came to earth for us. He forever took the curse to the cross for all those living there in submission to Him.
James 2:10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.
The Old Testament does not bring a person unto salvation. It teaches obedience, mercy and righteousness. The basic purpose of the law was and is to bring a person unto righteousness.
Because of the sacrifice and the Blood being shed by Jesus we now live under the new dispensation. All born again and baptized believers now live by faith.
Galatians 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
Romans 1:17 The just shall live by faith.
Hebrews 10:38 The just shall live by faith
A person who is truly redeemed will live their life faithfully, trusting IN God. Trusting Jesus! We are able to live a faithful life only because of the faithfulness of God.
Gal 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
We can be free of the curse of the law only when we repent. Forgiveness and the elimination of any curse happens only because of the power of “The Blood of Jesus” that forgives and cleanses all.
The question I raise for everyone is:
If a born again Christian stumbles or is mis-taught and falls into the snare of Satan, by living their life embroiled in one of the “Works of the Flesh” found in Galatians 5, a New Testament teaching, will they be invited to the marriage feast or left behind? Will they be one of the chosen?
Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Gal 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Gal 5:26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
Jesus broke the curse of all of the 613 precepts of the law in the Old Testament and the works of the Flesh in Galatians, for all true believers. He did this by the shedding of His Blood at the crucifixion. He broke the curses for all who are born again into faith IN Jesus Christ. But only when they do what?
Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Our old sinful life is redeemed by the Lord Jesus Christ so we can be set free from the old carnal nature so we are no longer a slave to sin and sinning.
The curse of the law was and is that no one can keep it without the power of the Holy Spirit working in us, to will and do the good pleasure of the Lord.
Sin brings with it its own consequences. These are curses that all can suffer under. The Blood of Jesus can and does destroy sin in a born-again, son or daughter of the True and Living God.
Real faith enables us to be faithful to the commands of Jesus. Jesus tells us that if we love Him, we WILL keep His commandments. Those who do not keep Jesus’ commandments and love (the self sacrificing kind) our brothers and sisters in the Lord are only fooling themselves if we think we are a child of God.
Being redeemed is through faith plus nothing else. We can acquire An Enduring Faith only by turning from our sins (repentance) and surrendering to Jesus’ demands. We can only do this by accepting Jesus as the only Lord and Savior.
Hallelujah Jesus! Thank-you for your sacrifice and the shedding of your Blood. It and only it provides the way to be free of all sin in our life and cleansed of all of their curses.
All born again Christians can celebrate, for we live by Faith, not by the Law and its curses.
The pharmaceutical industry makes billions of dollars each year, treating people for the symptoms of the curses that have been earned by them. None of us need to be a slave to sin and the pharmaceutical companies again. (Read again and understand: The Beast)
I have written a complete teaching on how to incorporate the power of “The Blood of Jesus” and the breaking of curses into your Christian daily. It can be found in the “Spiritual Warfare Training Course”. The textbook for this course is entitled the “Biblical Spiritual Warfare Manual” in our book store or on Amazon Kindle. All books in the book store are donation priced.
If you are a member of a Denominational or Catholic church, I invite you to send this teaching to your pastor, priest, elders, church board or any other leaders, out of love, and then to contact them and ask them to explain that church’s teaching on this topic. Millions of us are being mis-taught and suffering because it! You will be delivering a teaching from the Word of God, not me.
The Word of God came to earth in the form of a man. That man was Jesus Christ. One cannot say that they believe in Jesus and then take a pick and choose attitude toward the Word of God!
Let us all pray that our eyes are opened to the truth and that the spirits of lies and deception be loosed from our minds.
Interesting article. My friend and I have both been having nightmares that wake us up at night. (Not at the same time, necessarily). I believe they are demonic. Is this what you mean by a curse? Or is this more like witchcraft?
Sleeping is getting more troublesome. Please give your advise.

Greetings, There seems to be controversy over the biblical basis for Pleading the Blood of Jesus. My own pastor is one who poo-poo’s the idea and says that it is outside the bible. How can I get comfortable with this teaching.

Welcome Bill, Like many of our Christian prayers and inspirations, the “Pleading the Blood” Prayer is not stated word for word in the bible. But it’s foundational biblical teachings are very well established. There are two entire chapters in the “Biblical Spiritual Warfare Manual” devoted to explaining this. The words used and the power behind it are derived from the Word of God.
There is a second way one can determine that this prayer is from God. Test it! God won’t mind. He understands us and wants us to grow in our belief and faith. Try it. Plead the Blood on different situations or people in your life and stand back and watch. Once again, you won’t be testing God. you will be testing this teaching.
You soon will be a total believer.
God Bless
